Frequently asked questions

How do I scan a product?

Tap "Scan Barcode" and point your camera at the product's barcode. You can also analyze a meal photo with AI, or choose an item from your library.

What do the gluten statuses mean?

Safe: gluten-free. Caution: may contain traces. Contains: contains gluten. Unknown: unable to determine. For life-threatening allergies, always confirm with the manufacturer.

Does the app work offline?

Partly. Looking up a barcode needs an internet connection, because product details come from the OpenFoodFacts database, and so does AI meal analysis. Your scan history and the allergen guide are stored on your phone.

How many allergens are supported?

GlutenScanning explains 45 allergens: the 9 major allergens recognized by the FDA (milk, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, wheat & gluten, soybeans, sesame) plus 36 more allergens and intolerances.

Is my data private?

No account is required, and your scan history and dietary profile stay on your device. To look up a product, its barcode number is sent to OpenFoodFacts. With your permission, AI meal analysis sends the meal photo, and recipe ideas send the allergens you pick to avoid, through our server to OpenAI; a product's ingredients in another language are translated automatically by the same route. No name or device identifier is sent, and we keep none of it. Read the full privacy policy.
